Korean Model Hyunjoo Hwang Turns Up the Heat in These 6 Steamy Photos From Bali

The 2019 Swim Search finalist posed for the SI Swimsuit Issue the following year.

Korean beauty Hyunjoo Hwang was featured in the 2020 SI Swimsuit Issue as a rookie, when she was photographed by Yu Tsai on the breathtaking beaches of Bali, Indonesia. She was discovered through the ’19 Swim Search, and named as a finalist of the open casting call that year. 

“As a woman born and raised in Korea, I was educated to be virtuous and conservative. However, this project ignited something inside myself. Through my experience at the SI Swimsuit model search, I developed a new sense of confidence and a desire to fight for our right to be beautiful and sexy women,” Hwang said about the impact of her experience with the brand. “I hope this message reaches Korea: tell every woman that being sexy and confident about your body is a beautiful thing, not something to be judged.”

The classically trained ballet dancer has previously starred in campaigns for 3.1 Phillip Lim, Anthropologie, Aritzia and Express. She has worked on several projects with Vogue, and even served a short stint as an actress.

“From her passion for the brand to her messaging and incredible talent, we all felt very strongly that [Hwang] belonged in the 2020 rookie class. I love that women of her caliber look to this brand as a place to share their stories, use their voice, shine and grow,” SI Swimsuit editor in chief MJ Day said. “That is the beauty of model search—it gives anyone who is willing to put themselves out there an opportunity.”
