Danica Patrick is a force on the race track and in front of the camera. The 2008 SI Swimsuit model, who is best known for her impressive career as a former professional race car driver, stunned during her appearance in the 2008 magazine. The 41-year-old traveled to Singer Island, Fla., and worked with visual artist Ben Watts more than a decade ago. The model returned the following year and was captured by Marlena Bielinska for an in-studio project.

“This type of shooting is actually really fun. I didn’t know how I would feeling coming in. I don't think I’ve ever really been in a straight swimsuit before for a photoshoot, so I was a little bit nervous but excited, too, because this is a big deal. I did the best to prepare. It [was] weird to be in a bathing suit and wearing racing boots or a suit,” she shared while on location with the brand in Florida. “The swimsuit issue is something that everybody looks at. I’m so flattered because it’s such a unique and prestigious piece to be a part of.”

The Wisconsin native amped up the classy, sophisticated vibes of her pristine white string bikinis with some super cool racing-inspired props, including a helmet and chic, edgy leather suit and gloves.

Patrick is regarded as one of the most successful women in the history of American open-wheel car racing. She won the 2008 Indy Japan 300 event, becoming the only woman to ever hold an IndyCar Series race title.

Below are five of our favorite photos from Patrick’s 2008 SI Swimsuit photoshoot in Florida with Watts.
