5 Marvelous Photos From Anastasia Ashley’s ‘Out of this World’ Trip to Guana Island

The professional surfer was in her element on the beaches of the British Virgin Islands.

As an American professional surfer, Anastasia Ashley is accustomed to spending time in the water and in a swimsuit. So, when she received an offer to pose for the 2014 issue of SI Swimsuit several years into her professional career, it was almost a natural extension of her typical day-to-day.

She headed to Guana Island with photographer Adam Franzino for her feature, posing both in the water and around the island in a series of stunning blue swimsuits.

“When I got the call to do Sports Illustrated, I was so excited,” she expressed at the time of the photoshoot. “For me, this is definitely such a cool pinnacle in my career, and it’s just out of this world.”

Ashley treated the experience accordingly, putting her best foot forward and ensuring that the final snaps were simply incredible. Among the series, there was one image in particular that the athlete called out as being incredibly cool. “The ruins shot,” as she called it, “that was a fun shot. MJ had found this really cool lookout that had this ruin. ... I think it turned out to be a great shot.”

Most importantly, the now 36-year-old made sure to make the most of her time on set. She was “totally willing to take chances on this shoot” she told the team afterward. “I mean, it’s Sports Illustrated, you gotta give it your best shot.” And that she did. Here are a few of the snaps that prove she gave it her all.
