Sarah Brandner was featured in the 2010 SI Swimsuit Issue after participating in a body paint feature. She worked with photographer Yu Tsai and makeup artist Joanne Gair for the soccer-themed photo shoot, which took place in a New York studio.

That year, SI Swimsuit decided to feature wives and girlfriends of World Cup players in the magazine, and the German model was eager to participate. At the time, Brandner was dating pro soccer player Bastian Schweinsteiger, who is now retired but played for the German national team in 2010. Abigail Clancy, Bethany Dempsey and Melissa Satta also posed in nothing but paint for the publication that year.

“I’m wearing the Germany jersey, it’s very short but brilliant,” Brandner said at the time. “It looks really real, but it doesn’t feel real.”

The model posed in a painted-on, partially torn away jersey on her upper half and donned a pair of coordinated bikini bottoms.

Today, the 34-year-old Munich resident continues to work as a model and is also a nutritionist. She is repped by Sesamy Agency. Brandner regularly shares work- and lifestyle-related content on Instagram with her 23,600 followers.

Below are eight of our favorite images Yu Tsai captured of Brandner during her body paint feature in New York.
