The astrophysicist took to the SI Swimsuit Issue to prove that women can do and be anything they want.

In 2022, astrophysicist Sarafina El-Badry Nance was one of the 13 Swim Search finalists to earn a feature in the annual magazine. She traveled to the Dominican Republic with photographer Yu Tsai for her photoshoot.

During the Swim Search experience, she also took the chance to sit down with the team to share a little bit more about herself. Like her fellow finalists and the SI Swimsuit models to come before her, her motivations for participating in the issue were laudable. As a woman in science and a cancer previvor, she “wanted to show that women can pursue our dreams, defy stereotypes and be anything we want to be, no matter what!” she expressed.

Nance was grateful for the opportunity to represent both the science and breast cancer communities "and equally thrilled for the platform to continue to push for change,” she said.

When it came to preparing for her debut, Nance “tried to stay calm and enjoy the ride.” She added,“"I worked on eating clean, getting lots of sleep and taking care of myself.”

Her positive and calm mindset certainly paid off, producing a series of stunning photos in the Dominican Republic. Below are a few of our favorites.
