Swim Search finalist Victoria DeHart Vesce was featured in last year’s SI Swimsuit Issue after she modeled for Yu Tsai on the breathtaking beaches of the Dominican Republic. The lawyer, who graduated from the Charleston School of Law, donned a series of stunning, colorful bikinis with flattering silhouettes and cut-outs as she posed by the water for the 2022 issue.

The model is passionate about defying stereotypes and using her platform for good. In 2017, Vesce was diagnosed with multiple paraganglioma, a brain-skull tumor and a carotid body tumor. She voluntarily took part in a Duke University Hospital study that has since helped several patients recover from rare tumors through specialized pinpoint radiation.

The Validated by Victoria podcast host has grown her social media page to encourage open conversations about grief and mental health. She hopes to inspire others by candidly sharing her journey and constantly talking about self-empowerment and self-love.

“When you share something so publicly, you’re bound to deal with haters,” she stated. “We’re still in a society that thinks scars aren’t beautiful, or you need to have the so-called perfect body to be accepted. My scars are what make me unique. It shows how powerful I am from this tumor, something I continue to battle day after day. Sometimes the trolls get to me because I’m only human. But at the same time, it empowers me to be myself more because others might be feeling alone in their journeys. So I continue to show who I am and be my powerful self.”
