When Maye Musk landed one of the covers of the 2022 SI Swimsuit Issue, she became the oldest person to ever grace the magazine’s front in its history. While this year, that title was transferred to Martha Stewart, the 75-year-old Canadian-born model made a splash with last year’s feature in Belize. The styling on set was inspired by the Central American country’s lush surroundings, so Musk donned a number of dramatic floral ensembles accessorized with strong, bold jewelry. 

In addition to modeling for Revlon and appearing on covers of publications like Women’s Day and Vogue, Musk is also a registered dietitian, a best-selling author and a mother of three. With so many impressive accolades under her belt, it’s no surprise that Musk is brimming with confidence—but that wasn’t always the case.

“You will have your confidence knocked out of you so many times, and you’ve got to just not mix with those people,” she told SI Swimsuit during the magazine’s launch events last year. “You mix with people who like you for what you are, and that you learn over time because you think you can get away with it, but you’ll be miserable.”

As for appearing on the magazine’s cover at the age of 74, Musk said that while she could never dream up such an opportunity, she hoped it would serve as inspiration to fellow women of all ages.

“I do think it’s going to make women feel more comfortable in their 70s when they swim, as well as women in their 20s and 30s,” she admitted. “When women go to the beach, we’re kind of shy about our bodies, but men will walk around, looking terrible, and they don’t care. I think we have to not care that much.”
