Fitness Influencer Katie Austin’s Guide to Summer Self-Care and Healthy Eating

Fitness influencer Katie Austin is all about living a life of balance: occasional celebratory drinks and dessert in combination with regular hearty, homemade salads, tacos or sandwiches. She lets herself relax while on vacation, where walking around and exploring a new city is her only exercise and then returns home to her daily HIIT, pilates or strength workouts. 

And if she’s having a bad day, where the routine slips a little—it’s no big deal. The 2021 Swim Search winner and ’22 co-Rookie of the Year knows that a healthy lifestyle is all about listening to your body, and treating it with love.

Healthy eating

As for some of her favorite tips for staying on track and taking advantage of summer, Austin says she loves seasonal vegetables.

“I love just chopping up some seasonal vegetables, throwing them on a baking sheet and roasting them [with] a little bit of garlic powder, salt and pepper,” she explains. A little bit of lemon, [also] in summertime is really important for some freshness.”

Her favorite on-the-go items are a turkey sandwich and pasta salad—especially paired with a diet coke for a beach day.

“There’s just nothing better,” Austin, who was photographed in the Dominican Republic for this year’s SI Swimsuit, issue gushes.

Moving your body

Austin believes even if you cant squeeze in a workout, whether it’s a busy day at work or you’re on vacation—getting outside and getting your legs moving is the best thing you can do for your body and mental health. She also often creates workout videos, shared on Instagram and TikTok and The Katie Austin App, with some moves that require no equipment and take up very little space.

“Walking in the summer is really great because it makes you explore a new town, if you’re on vacation,” she shares. “I really encourage people to like check out the new space that they’re in and going for a walk is really great, great exercise. So do it with your family as well, just enjoy the good weather of the summer.”
