Kim Kardashian is nothing if not a household name. She has graced the cover of countless magazines and has built up a rather impressive brand and social media presence throughout her career. Last year, SI Swimsuit joined her repertoire, giving the iconic media personality one of the four coveted spots on the cover of the annual magazine.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star accompanied Greg Swales to the Dominican Republic for an oceanside photoshoot. While there, Kardashian expressed her excitement over being included in the issue and being named a cover model.

“Every girl has been obsessed with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit covers. They are iconic,” she told the SI Swim team at the time.

But the 42-year-old never imagined that she would see herself on that cover. “I never thought in a million years that I’d be shooting one myself,” she admitted on set.

“Every time I would see magazines like this, especially in the ’90s when I was growing up, it was always these perfect tall, thin women and I just have never been that,” she continued. “I vividly remember Tyra Banks on the cover and women with curves [and] I remember thinking that was so cool. But I still… thought you had to be a professional model and a runway model.”

When her opportunity came last year, Kardashian was ready. Swales directed the sporty photoshoot masterfully and Kardashian delivered, posing in a number of leather and motocross-inspired looks. Below are eight of our absolute favorite photos from the trip.
