Lauren Chan 2023: Dominican Republic

Lauren Chan was photographed by James Macari in the Dominican Republic for the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue along with fellow models Katie Austin, Camille Kostek, Hailey Clauson, Brooks Nader and Madisin Rian.

Chan is a true triple threat, having worked in the fashion industry as a writer, editor and model. While working as the fashion features editor at Glamour, the Toronto native focused on a plus-size fashion beat and designed a clothing collection with Lane Bryant. She is also the founder and CEO of Henning, a luxury womenswear brand that was recently acquired by Universal Standard. Chan now works as the company’s head of brand partnerships. This is her first appearance in the SI Swimsuit Issue.

Cap Cana is a tropical oasis located in the Punta Cana area of the Dominican Republic. The exclusive private community is renowned for both its luxurious service and non-stop activity. It boasts white sand beaches, seaside cliffs and a variety of native wildlife. The area is also home to Sports Illustrated Resorts Marina & Villas Cap Cana, an all-inclusive luxury resort that is an ideal spot for adventurous guests who are looking for an action-packed getaway. Thus, the location was an easy choice for the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue.

The SI Swimsuit team decided to leverage the eager anticipation around this summer’s forthcoming Greta Gerwig-directed Barbie film, so the styling for Chan’s photo shoot embraced full-on Barbiecore. The swimsuits were sexy and playful while exuding tons of powerful feminine energy. Think lots of hot pink, bold patterns and strong silhouettes suitable for the iconic doll herself.
