Breanna Stewart was a beast on the basketball court long before she entered the WNBA. The New York Liberty forward is a four-time NCAA champion and was named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA tournament during four separate seasons. 

She was the No. 1 draft pick in 2016, when she graduated from the University of Connecticut and spent six seasons with the Seattle Storm. That same year, Stewart won a gold medal with the USA women’s basketball team at the Rio Olympic Games, and was named the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year.

The mom of two, who shares daughter Ruby and son Theo with her wife, Marta Xargay, is also a one-time SI Swimsuit model. The 29-year-old was photographed by Laretta Houston alongside fellow powerful athletes Sue Bird, DiDi Richards, Nneka Ogwumike and Te’a Cooper in St. Thomas for the 2022 issue.

“The vibe on set has been great. MJ’s been amazing. I think she’s just extremely supportive and makes us feel comfortable,” Stewart said of the magazine’s editor in chief, MJ Day. “My message to the younger generation would be to continue to work hard and continue to follow your dreams. Women are doing something extremely special right now for your generation so you can continue to build on it and be the best you can be.”

The 2020 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year has proven time and time again that she’s got major skills on the basketball court. These pics will show you just how versatile her talent is. She’s definitely a force of nature in front of the camera, too.
